we only know what we know and if the last few years have taught us anything, people are in general willing to get along and go along with about anything they are told by whoever is in charge.

If a win accepts an ongoing rebellion, as it has in those places, then Russia can likely win. If they can get a Moscow friendly government in place, some portion of the population will just get along while muttering under their breath, cause that's what people do.
